Almuñécar, together with its neighbour La Herradura, form the tourist capital of the Costa Tropical. The town is backed by rugged hills, valleys and agricultural land. Almuñécar has medieval, pedestrianised winding streets that lead up through the old quarter and out onto the Moorish castle. Geranium-filled balconies and small sunny plazas line the labyrinth of narrow lanes and passage ways; the town’s archaeological museum is located here.

Almuñécar includes 19 kilometres of local coastline within its boundaries: secluded coves, long beaches and the town’s main beachfront with all its amenities and facilities. There are numerous options for water sports, including diving, the area is said to have some of the best underwater scenery anywhere along the Spanish southern coast.

For the golfer, there are a number of nearby golf courses with spectacular views. You can also go hiking, rambling, horse-riding or just take in the fresh air and magnificent scenery.

Do you just want to recharge your batteries? Sometimes, a quieter, more relaxed destination is in order. Almuñécar is the ideal place for that quiet break. No loud clubs; just enjoy some "tapas" where the locals go, and some laid back Spanish beach-life.

The Costa Tropical takes its name from the sub-tropical climate that it enjoys. With warm winters and long hot summers, the average temperature is around 20C.
The cities of Granada and Málaga are both accessible in under an hour by car.
